About the Artist- Sandra Gustafson
Sandra Gustafson has been exhibiting her artwork in Des Moines, Iowa for over 25 years. Starting in acrylics with larger abstracts she transitioned to smaller gouache and ink pieces 13 years ago. The transition was made due to being on bedrest during the pregnancy of her son. While in the hospital, space and tools were limited and she used this new found time and love for these materials to start anew. Sandra found a system that mirrored what she was going through. By laying down the constraints of the tape on the paper, placing the water and ink on the page and waiting as the work directed her to the moment she saw what was waiting to be born...this new style was too. Sandra’s work is ethereal and insightful inviting the viewer to find their own interpretation.
When Sandra isn't creating in her backyard studio, she works as a realtor. These two jobs may seem counterintuitive; however, she has found a beautiful way to connect both rather seamlessly. By creating original pieces for her real estate clients, as well as continuing to create for herself and exhibit in her city, art continues to be the happy constant that has always flowed through Sandra's life.
